We aren’t the hero

Someday at our funerals, people who love us are going to stand up and, if we lived life well, tell everyone how and why our lives were meaningful to them.

Our lives are always valuable, but they only become meaningful when we give our lives away in the service of others.

That's when people will say, through mixed tears of joy and sorrow, "________ meant so much to me because this is how they loved me: ________."

Our lives become fulfilling when they don’t center around us. We know we win when we help others accomplish their dreams; when we make the people we are serving the hero.

But what about your business, and particularly your website?

Your business is not about you, it’s about serving others. You see every website visitor is coming to your website in search of something. They are on a hero’s journey and they have a problem they need to overcome to get to their preferred future.

What do they see when they come to your website? Do they see that your business knows their story? Or is your website about you and your story?

Here are a few quick changes you could make to your website header to show your audience that you know their story and can help them on their hero’s journey:

1) Make sure your website headline clearly communicates what you offer and who it’s for. This saves your visitor mental calories and helps them immediately know if you offer what they need.

2) Make sure your website subheading communicates the value you bring to your audience. This helps the visitor know you can take them to their preferred future.

3) Make sure it’s clear how to work with you. Put a call to action button in the top right corner of the website and also below the subheading. This way they know how to start working with you.

Because it's not about us, it's about them. We aren’t the hero. They are. That's how to build a meaningful business and meaningful life.

For the good of your work...
